SHOTGUN HOLE CAVE
By Bill Walker

Eric Amsbury (AKA the human cave survey) recently told us about a neat karst feature west of Gainesville that he described as a mini Devils Den. We finally got to check it out on Sunday, June 9th.

Chrissy, Adam, Carla, and I arrived at the cave and rigged the pit. The pit is located on the south side of a shallow sink and the drop (from the top of the sink) is around 25 feet deep. The last 10 feet of the of the rappel is free as you pop into a large water filled room (see pic 4.) A narrow ledge runs along the south wall and the clear blue water is 10 feet below the ledge. The water is deep and blue. Underwater borehole leads off to the east and west and the water never seemed to silt out (hmmm...)
