Catacombs Exploration and Gate-Repair Trip- Aug 31, 2002
Caren Beck
Many new FSSers enjoyed seeing Catacombs for the first time on our
most recent trip. Even the three Ts (Tom, Tom, and Tracey) from Tampa
Bay Area Grotto enjoyed the cave for the first time.
Adam led the trip which included Sarah, her friend Lars, her daughter
Sequoya, Becky, Phil, Alex, and the Three Ts. They enjoyed exploring
the cave, but admitted that the "awful earful" duck-unders
and water-filled passages were challenging!!!
Sullivan and Caren finished welding the gate in place completely.
(We tried not to smoke out the cave too badly.)
There were several bats in the cave, which means our gate is bat
friendly. Hopefully as they get more accustomed to the gate, more
will want to make the cave their home. I would if I was a bat!!:)
PS. Don't park in the area left of the "Slow Children at Play"
sign if there is a high chance of rain. Don't ask us how we learned
that bit of information!!
