BRIAR CAVE, MARION COUNTY

Here are a few photos from Briar Cave, one of the premier caves in Marion County.

Each caving area in the US has a different character. For example, caves in TAG are slightly different than caves in West Virginia which are different from the caves in New Mexico which are different from the caves in Arkansas. The pictures below capture the unique character of Florida caves.

Florida contains one of the largest, cleanest and most productive karst aquifers in the world. Some of the more enjoyable caves in the area are the water table caves, partially submerged caves located at the top of the water table. The water is warm (74 degrees) and crystal clear - at least for the first person through the passage. Other examples of water table caves in the area are Catacombs, Mays Cave, Roosevelt, and Shotgun Hole.
