Speleological Society Sinkhole and Cave Inspection Service
Sinkhole Inspection Service
Sinkholes are windows to our aquifer. Many sinks get filled with
trash by people who don't understand that they are contaminating
the very water that their family drinks. Many sinkholes and caves
contain household and farm trash, including rusting appliances and
car parts. The rain water that enters these sinkholes is filtered
through all of this debris and channeled directly into the aquifer.
If you have a sinkhole full of debris on your property, your well
water and your neighbors well water are most likely affected by
it.
The FSS encourages all residents of Central Florida who have garbage
filled sinkholes or caves to contact the FSS for evaluation as to
whether a cleanup is warranted, especially sinkholes close to people's
water wells.
