January 8, 2009 Vincent and Vero

"The Caves of France"

The seminar series continues with international guest speakers from France. Two geology post-docs, Vincent and Vero, will show us photos and speak about research and exploration of caves in France.


December 11, 2008 Meryem and Huseyin

"The Deepest Cave in Turkey"

Meryem is a PhD student in Neurosciences at UF and Huseyin is a coastal engineer. Both were avid cavers back home in Turkey. They will show us pictures and talk about Evren Gunay Mehmet Ali Ozel Dudeni which is the deepest cave in Turkey and the 12th deepest in the world.


November 13, 2008 Bill Walker

"Historical Florida Caving Videos"

Bill is a long time FSS member. He brought in some old caving videos to share with the group. Some of the caves are now closed to exploration.


July 10, 2008 Andrew Pitkin

"Cave Medicine"

Andrew is a medical researcher at UF and SHANDS. His talk focused on research he conducted while in the UK on cave related injuries and hazards.


June, 12, 2008 Jason Gulley

"Glacier Caves"

Jason is a PhD candidate with the University of Florida's Department of Geology. His talk took us around the world to glacier cave study sites in Alaska, Nepal, and Svalbard.


May 8, 2008 Dr. Holly Ober

"Bats and Caves: Fact and Fiction"

Dr. Ober is a researcher with the University of Florida's Wildlife Ecology Department. Her talk focused on identification of the bats found in Florida, concentrating on species found in Florida Caves. She also discussed the current knowledge on the "White Nose Syndrome"


April 10, 2008 Ariel Bennett

"Exploring the invisible world below: an introduction to cave microbiology"

Ariel is a graduate student with the University of Florida's Department of Geological Sciences. Her talk explored the microbial world in the cave environment.
